myspace musings...

what is better than having *one* myspace page? *2* myspace pages!! woot woot!!!!! this lesson was much anticipated. making my work myspace page was just as fun as making my personal myspace page. not only can i have one cute site with a pretty background and an awesome song, but now i get 2!!! no more waffling between should i choose my favorite ryan star song, or the ding dong song? ryan star? ding dong? ryan star? ding dong? i went for the much tamer ryan star song for my work page. don't want to subject gunther to all my co-workers! and let's face it, there are sooo many cool layouts, it's almost impossible to choose between them! sooo...i added the kcls27things page to my friends list and left a sparkly comment! woot woot!! bring on the next assignment!

thoughts on...uhhhh...yeah.

i know i was supposed to blog on my discovery lesson from monday- funny, i can't remember what it was! oh! (ok, i didn't really remember, i went back to the page and re-read it)- i read a couple of the articles, but that was on monday, so i can't really recall what i read. must not have been interesting, lol. (i'm kidding)- i say right on! to the fact that libraries are now taking part in social networking sites. today's life has become more about computers and other electronic gadgets, sometimes it is easiest to reach your audience using myspace, blogs, etc. if it expands the relationship libraries have with their patrons, that's great! the facebook actually looks quite awesome, something i could well spend a whole day just on creating a character! not to mention if i played with it, i may never see the light of day for the rest of the year. my friends will just have to bring me food and spray some air freshener on me every once in a while in case i start to smell. then again, maybe that's not such a swell idea! well, onto making a myspace page! i have been waiting for this lesson since day one! i already have a personal page, but it's so much fun to work up, i can't wait to do another for work! ta!

blog this, blog that, flick(r) this, flick(r) that!

i am having sooo much fun with this whole thing- it may border on obsession as far as the flickr tools & rss feeds go...but last night i made this cool photo from the hockneyizer- let's see if it comes up correctly on my blog! the photo makes me think of spring (it doesn't snow in spring, right??)

hockey, news, music, hockey, movies & hockey!

wowsa! i never thought i could spend so much time on the internet! coming into the rss feeds area of learning 2.0, i was hoping i wouldn't get so lost i'd never get back home. one of my friends (who is very good with computers) said even they were a bit confused. so of course, right away, i think i am in biiig trouble. but alas, this lesson was so much fun for me, right away i found about 20 feeds and 3 fellow staff to add to my bloglines account. woot woot! this morning, i could take it no longer and had to get back online (from home, no less!) and find more more MORE information! part 2 of week 4 said to add a few more, so indeed, i followed directions (as i of course always do!) and added oh...another 32 feeds. it is now apparent to me that i have no life. LoL.
i tended to find that using the "quick pick subscriptions" tab on bloglines was not the best method. yes, i did manage to find a few items there, but quite a few that i tried came back with "no feeds were found"- so instead i just jotted down what i wanted and did a search by feeds instead. i found a plethora of items that way. i think it was easiest to do the searches than going to different sites, only because i was unaware of all the sites existing about HOCKEY, my one true love.
i would have to say the easiest search tool was bloglines. i did manage to find a couple of great hockey blogs through Google Blog Search. think i will stay away from the feedster and topix.net sites- a bit confusing for me.
in my discovery exercise, i cheated. 2 of my additions were from the kcls27things suggestion, as i wasn't able to find any library themed sites that interested me enough to want to read them. no unusual feeds found today!
bring on myspace! woot woot!

aragorn

aragorn

aragorn was a semi-permanent fixture in the backroom of the bellevue library. when it was time for him to retire to jenenevieve's house, vicki and i decided to have a few photos taken with him. we will never forget him, and, i think...we will always miss him.
as for my experience getting this photo posted...well, that part was not so fun. i had no problems opening a flickr account, uploading a photo, placing a couple of tags on the photo... and then i opened up my blogspot.com site. i did everything i was supposed to do- went into flickr to grant access, found the photo, copied and pasted the link, and yet, nothing. it comes up a huge empty square with a little r on it. thankfully, one of my co-workers was here to help, and i found that blogging directly from flickr onto my blog here was the only way to get my photo up correctly. would have been nice to know this before i spent 45 minutes trying to figure out what i was doing wrong! my hope is that the next task will be easier (oh, please let it be easier!) as for the exciting and wonderful new world of mashups- i actually had a pretty fun time making a magazine cover of 2 of my nephews. it ended up being a little cheesy, but it's all in fun, i wasn't going for an award or anything!
