danny? is this the end? of course not, it's only the beginning...
wowsa! ok, this really is the end of my learning 2.0 gig. here are my reflections- i didn't really have any lifelong learning goals until kcls gave them to me. however, once i did have them, yeah, it helped. loved to learn about all these new (to me, at least) programs floating out in cyberspace. not all of them, of course. my favorite ones, that i will continue to use well beyond learning 2.0 were (in no particular order) bloglines and rss feeds, myspace (which i already knew about), library thing, and youtube. what did i hate? wikis. i still tremble at the sound of the name! *tremble, tremble, tremble!*
i can't recall anything surprising me. okay, maybe it did surprise me when a few things didn't work like they were supposed to, but i suppose it shouldn't have. in a cyber world of broken links, incorrect instructions, and wikis *tremble, tremble, tremble!* it should just be a given.
i do not feel there was help readily available when i needed it. for the most part, just following the directions was enough for me in figuring out how to use the programs. i have a logical mind, so it was pretty simple. i would definitely love to have more training like this for in-house classes. and to borrow a thought from jenenevieve, it would be nice for those of us who don't like to drive all the way into issaquah for classes, if the system would bring some of the classes to our home branches.
if i could go back in time...well, to be honest, if i could figure out how to time travel, my attention would be on more important things besides learning 2.0. but yeah, if i happened to bump into myself, i might pass along a positive yee-hah and tell me to do it. oh, i forgot one other thing i really liked- blogging! i just may keep this one up. i can be pretty long winded and when everyone else is tired of listening to me, i could use this as a sounding board. yeah, that's a good idea!
aaaand finally, my last bit of blogging for learning 2.0- in my bloglines, under a few articles, they had options not only for adding to de.lic.ious, but also to "digg this!", "stumble it!", "submit to netscape", or "discuss on newsvine". learning one or more of those might be interesting. i just might...

youtube's definitely got it (the right stuff)
woot woot! gotta love youtube! it took me a while to find a video, but then it hit me- new kids on the block! i don't know why it took me so long to think of them. i dream about donnie wahlberg every night...nah just kidding. so here is the one i chose- the right stuff video. gotta say that my funky homeboy looks awful good here! love love love youtube!
i went into podcast.net and did the library search thingy. didn't find much of anything i liked, so i chose the kankakee library podcast. why kankakee? well first of all, i used to know a cat named kankakee. and also, kankakee just rooollls off the tongue! LoL. i added it to my bloglines account, but i do not think i will keep it after my 27things is finished. not my cup of tea. cannot say whether anything i found there would be worth trying at kcls. nope, sure can't. but do ya wanna know what my cup of tea is? huh? do ya, punk? audio books! audio, text, either way, it's a book! and books are the love of my life. the one thing i was looking forward to most on doing this 27things thing was getting an mp3 player so i could check out ebooks from kcls. looks like there is a good selection there as well, some of my favorite authors. well, *whew* this weeks lessons are finished and i'm happy to say i am almost done with learning 2.0! woot woot!!

everything google...and something else, too!
this is my discovery exercise findings. um...i checked out google docs and zoho. i made a spreadsheet on google docs that just said "snape is good. snape is not evil." let's face it, this cheeky monkey is running out of imagination (but by the way, snape is good, which we all will find out in july- this is not because i have gotten a sneak peak of the new book, it's just my personal feelings and hopes). i tried to find the area about rss feeds but apparently that isn't available in the spreadsheet option. and i didn't do a document. *sniffles*
onto zoho...pretty much the same thing, and pretty much something i won't be using again. but hey! now i know what it is. i'm way cooler than i was 2 months ago. (which isn't much, because i've always pretty much been awesome)
2nd part, i used google labs and checked out google trends (did you know that the language that most looked up the word library was "irish"? i wasn't aware they spoke irish in ireland- i thought it was gaelic!), then i looked thru google reader, which was cool too but basically a copy of bloglines. the only thing different was you don't have to re- type in a search item each time you subscribe to one- you can subscribe, go to the next one, subscribe...etc. the last part was google video. and i found this cute penguin video. awwww...it won't post correctly. guess i will have to work on that later. update- the poor little penguins will have to go on a walk without us, the video just won't work. so i pulled a video up on google video, but when i found the one below, it actually came from YouTube (which i believe i will be looking at later as well)
dang! this weeks lesson was long. seems like it took me forever to get thru it all-i looked at the web 2.0 awards for 2007 and found this great site called Yelp- at first when i just clicked on seattle, it of course pulled up all things in only seattle. but on further browsing, i found i could just pull up bothell, and the surrounding areas. this is definitely going to be a keeper in my bookmarks. i was hoping to add it to my bloglines account, but i've not found a link to do so. but this week was definitely fun! i am planning to use these again. google google google! whatever would we do without you?

google foo(g)l(e), yep that's me!
that rollyo thing is too slow for me. not only that, but having the ads in between all the search results gets annoying after, oh...2 seconds! loved loved LOVED the google search engine! as you may be able to see, i put a hockey search engine on my page. totally had fun with that one. the only thing i really would have loved more was if they had options where i could choose pastel colors instead. it would go better with the color scheme of my blog.
the articles we were supposed to read...i did read some of them, but found myself nodding off. why do people have to be so long winded when writing about something? can't they just cut to the chase and not put in all those huge word combinations that make me want to grab a thesaurus? (ok, yes, i do know i am rather long winded myself, but at least what i have to say is interesting!) i have no opinions aside from that on the articles. i read them, i moved on. nuff said.

battle of the network injustices
:-O !!!!! CBS canceled one of the best shows on tv right now- jericho is apparently no more. NBC canceled crossing jordan, too! for what? so they can put some crap show on that stupid people will watch. what about the smart people? we have needs too! (since i'm almost finished with my 27things, i feel justified in throwing a personal post in here- besides, once i'm over the learning 2.0 thingy, this will turn into my personal ranting and ravings anyway!)- and we won't even go into the whole cancelation of passions. LoL. i did, however, get to call mr jim and ruin his day about jericho (he loves it too) so that made me feel better. ruining someone's day always makes me happy. ;-)
in other news- the detroit red wings kicked some major anaheim tail last night! the dominator didn't let a single goal in. it sort of scares me though, when he goes outside of the crease to clear the puck. but hey, the wings were on their game in anaheim, and it makes me so happy to see the ducks lose on home ice! but what a cheap shot from rob niedermayer and chris pronger on tomas holmstrom. here's to hoping chris pronger gets suspended for at least a game...time will tell!
um...i don't believe there's anything else i want to rant about today. but it's only 12:47 so maybe i will find something later on. hehe

"if di lived in south park and other horror stories..."

online generators! woot woot! this week i definitely had some fun- i even shared the south park generator with a few family members and they both made their own, thought it was a hoot and a half. too bad the person who made the blog doesn't go in every once in a while and make sure some of those generators still work. there were about 4 or 5 i wanted to try but the links were dead. oh well, it's not like i didn't have 67 million other online gennys to work with. a few of my favorites that i tried- middle-earth name generator; the bush speech generator (i really wanted to make him quote the song "the greatest love of all" by whitney houston, but turns out he will only say certain things! how sad is that??); and you just gotta love the grafitti generator! i think i will definitely go back to that one and play around with it. i guess the ones i don't quite understand the fun in are the random frog and kitten generators- i could just go on flickr or photobucket to find photos of frogs and kittens. huh.
the coolest one though, was the south park character generator- speaking of which, the above photo is what i would look like- looks just like me!
and the point horror plot generator- niiice. here's a little story about me and my friends-
Diana was having a happy normal day at Tolt High. She had lunch with her best friends Jennifer and Chelle, and completed her work for Mr. Mejlaender. It was all going wonderfully, until she discovered penguins in her locker - she had a terrible fear of them, and wondered who could do such a cruel thing.
'I bet it was Rachel,' said Jennifer. 'She's been jealous of you since she heard that you were going to the Literary Lion's Dinner with Keanu.' Diana sighed.
'Did you read the The Boston Herald?' said Chelle. 'There was an article about Michael Myers, who shocked everyone when he stole pantyhose from the nearby 7 Eleven.'
'Really?' said Diana. 'Can I read the article?'
Chelle gave it to her.
The Boston Herald has heard rumors that Michael Myers is back after the shock of many years ago when he stole pantyhose from the nearby 7 Eleven. This is not true. Michael Myers is in Australia.
Diana scanned the article and was startled to discover that she and Michael Myers were alike - they both had an alian for a father.
Diana walked home feeling very troubled. When she got home, there was a note on her doorstep. She opened it and screamed. It was full of penguins. There was also a letter.
To Diana. Watch your step. Ha ha ha. Signed, Michael Myers.
Who could it be? Was it really Michael Myers or someone closer to her? Diana suspected everyone - Rachel of course, who always sneered at her. Keanu, even though he was the dreamiest boy at Tolt High. She even suspected Chelle who had a great love for penguins and had been acting strangely recently. The only person she could trust was Jennifer who had been her friend since they were small children.
The night before the Literary Lion's Dinner, Diana went with Jennifer to the Bellevue Regional Library, and they discovered it was empty. Diana was pleased to have Jennifer with her, because she was very nervous about Michael Myers, as well as avoiding Keanu, Chelle, and Rachel. 'Isn't it strange,' said Jennifer. 'How much we have in common?'
Diana remembered that they both had an alien for a father. She became uneasy. 'Jennifer, don't you have family in Australia?'
Jennifer laughed manically. She threw some penguins at Diana, then attacked her with a nasty patron, and Diana was forced to fight back with a self check-in beast. She ran away and was found by Keanu and Chelle, who had a perfectly rational explanation for her strange behaviour.
'We came to save you from Jennifer,' said Chelle.
The next day they discovered that Jennifer had died horribly. Diana was sad - Jennifer had been her friend for years, and becoming a crazed psycho in the space of a few days could happen to anyone. But she placed her trauma firmly behind her and went to the Literary Lion's Dinner with Keanu, much to the dismay of Rachel.
-The End!
